Baracuta is one of the biggest historic brands in British clothing. Born in Manchester in 1937, its iconic G9, G4 and G12 have become timeless classics. The G9 is still one of the most celebrated icons in the history of menswear; created by the Miller brothers in 1937 and completed in 1938 with the distinctive Fraser Tartan lining, granted to the Millers by Lord Fraser, of the Lovat family and recognisable from the unmistakable umbrella back yoke. The G9 cult exploded in the 1950s with its distribution in the United States and the adoption of the brand by celebrities such as Elvis Presley, James Dean, Frank Sinatra, and Steve McQueen. In 1964 Baracuta’s G9 became universally known as the ”Harrington” jacket thanks to the popularity of Ryan O’Neal who played Rodney Harrington in Peyton Place. In recent years this classic British style icon, has also been adopted by several youth subcultures, including the mods, punks, skinheads and various English rockers.
